I am making a Sci-Fi action game
revolving primarily around a new sport called “Grav-Ball”. The storyline will
be different for each of the nine playable races. You will play as one of the characters
on the team. The game will take place on multiple planets with multiple arenas
and styles where story and adventure will play a part between matches. Some species’
stories revolve around revenge, others are underdogs, and some are just evil
champions. The three areas I will be primarily focusing on the game will be the
species you will be able to play as, the core concept for the arenas, and the
balls for the game. The gameplay will be third person fast paced with an
emphasis on squad commands and playbooks. Teams will probably consist of 10 to
15 players. About 5 to 6 of them will be important characters in the story of
each team.
I’m drawing on resources from
mostly sci fi games when it comes to character design. Halo, crisis, destiny,
and others will be used for the species but there will be no ties to their original
games. Each species will have a unique look and option for color schemes as
well as special abilities to go along with their storyline. You will create
your character from an RPG style creation screen, and the rest of your team
will be pre-made characters with their own personalities. Characters will have
grapples hooks to grab onto balls and terrain as well as jets for the faster
and shield for the slower but stronger.
There will be multiple types of
balls. Some will be primarily for offense and will seek out opponents. Others will
seek out the offensive balls to smash them off course. The primary ball will be
used for making goals and will have very minimal seeking abilities but will be slightly
drawn to the small circular goal hovering at the back of each teams corner. There
will also be balls that have no seek abilities whatsoever but serve any purpose.

It's a very interesting Idea but it is still developing. I like the idea of having a different story for each character and having the different balls really changes it up. However, having the sports part of this only be a side story is a tad bit confusing. Try to simplify it and I would personally stick more with the sports part of this instead of actual outside the arena backstory type of game. The sports would make it more interesting considering what I have heard about the game in general.
ReplyDeleteThis design has a lot of thought put into it and it seems you have a tonof cool ideas. I would be careful, however, with the huuuge complexity of what you have thought of. There is a lot of stuff going on and it seems like an overly complex game with too much happening for the player to get a good grasp. I would try simplifying the game a bit. For example, consider trashing the 9 race idea and put more focus onto one strong story line and character instead of nine weaker ones
